Rotary International had granted the charter on May 5, sponsored by the West Orange and Whippany clubs, with delegations from 21 clubs on hand. The club donated a flagpole to the Livingston First Aid Squad, part of a series of gifts to the town's emergency services that began with a fire-rescue truck in 1954.
